Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 89 240sx with an automatic transmission that just revs up when you put it in gear, the previous owner replaced the transmission before this started happening and i was wondering if he maybe done something wrong when he put it in and what would be causing this?

check your fluid (er..um the car's transmission oil) it should be between the hash marks, with it idling in park-

..also there has got to be a leaker if it's losing fluid, inspect with a flashlight the entire length of transmission coolant line, looking for some red seepage- other place would be dripping from the pan.

the radiator junction is full of destructive vibratory influence. quite possible it is at or around the fittings to this coolant line!

you could have lost throttle pressure. check the linkage from the carb or throttle body (which ever it has) to the transmission.

got a good point 7jimmy7. could be a simple stripped bolt pullin out the works, shift lever does nothing...yeah...right with you on that one!

Why would somebody go through' all that trouble just to get rid of it. I smell fish. I so hope you didn't pay too much for this project car.

I think he's unaware of how to extract the codes...and needs a little time to figger it out!...but thanks for gettin back reaper81...you got a plenty scarey handle..

Didnt give much for it, has good motor, interior and body on it so i didnt give too much, the 240s are hard to get ahold of around these parts so if i need another tranny its no big deal. but thanks for all your imput guys.

Is it stanced or is it stock or is it more of a commute thrasher? If it isnt important and you have a daily than I recommend buying a new tranny.
