Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been having this problem with my 1988 300zx non turbo. Check engine light would turn on and
off frequently, then stays on. So I changed fuel filter, plugs, cap, and rotor, when I did my oil change. still
gotta do the spark plug wires. Car runs very rich and wants to die sometimes when i let off the gas. the
idle is very low and fluctuates from around 600 then drops to around 300 (back and forth) When I turn
the key I have to give it gas to start. It'll run fine for a second until i get to about 25mph then the rough
idle comes back and makes everything shake. Even after I changed the plugs there was black deposit
buildup above my exhaust. Help Please!

go back to basics get a repair manual and check the ignition timing. Once that is set and does not change the way it starts and idles then check for correct signal to from the computer. zeeker

Fuel pressure regulator may be leaking as well. Located in front of engine w small vac line disconnect vac and plug start see if it runs slightly better. Look for fuel leaking out vac connection at top of regulator.
