air adjust screw sounds like what a carburetor has to even out the idle , spray some carb cleaner down the throttle , check any loose/broken vacuum hoses , you may have an intake leak if you can apply carb. cleaner on the gasket you can see if the idle changes otherwise there's a smoke test , around 1985 carburetors were on the way out , transition years , so not sure what you have

pull a few spark plugs see if it's running rich , ie. black soot in tailpipe , did this vehicle sit for a while ? try octane booster in gas tank
