if i replace the 305 engine with a 350 on my 79 firebird will i have problems passing smog

in california i dont kmow, but as long as all the emmision stuff (cats, egr, etc....) i dont see why not, ask your local law enforcement people of your division of motor vehicles.
all depends on what state you are in . if you're in NY there is no smog test on vehicles 25 yrs & older, california you most likely have to keep the emmision controls on the car but it should pass if everything is working properly
The best way is to not eat at Taco Bell.You might want to put a 4-banger in it for when gas tops $5/galllon this summer.

350 (5.7 Liter) should be no problem when it is the same engine in a 90's pickup truck.
you shouldn't have any problems using the same stock exhaust from the 305 setup. should bolt right up like original. getting the motor to run right will be harder than that.
you shouldn't have any problem installing a sbc 350 where the 305 was as its the samew block dimensions. get rid of the computer controlled quadrajet and install an edelbrock carb and you should be fine......
