December 1963, but would not be allowed to be sold until January 1964. They did not start selling the "future model year" autos until the mind 80's or early 90's. Years ago dealerships would have "New Years" parties to show off the new model year autos and entice buyers to come in during the slow holiday season.

Maybe in 1963, but by 1965 the new model year's cars were on display and for sale in September, at least here in Canada they were. I remember going with my dad to the local GM dealership's open house around mid September each year to see the new models. It was the highlight of my year.

I understand that Pontiac was taking orders for the 64 as early as February '63, cars were delivered to dealers in early August for prep. So I would imagine that some GP's were available for sale then also, in spite of the official "september" debut. Check this out - doesn't answer the question but cool anyhow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhkjI2Zu3pM and also this fantastic bit of Poncho history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhkjI2Zu3pM

a GOOD EXAMLE OF THE EARLIER DATES WAS THE FORD GALAXY IN 63 AN 64. THE FAST BACKS WERE CALLED THE 63 AND A HALF AGAIN IN 64 THE SAME THING. TO GET THE FASTBACK YOU HAD TO WAIT FOR MID YEAR MODELS AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT IT WAS FOR FORDS
