Dimming lights on 06 Trailblazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Lights dimming (dimmer/brighter) when engine is idling.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I've been told it's "one of those things" I have to live with on an 06 Trailblazer.  Already changed the alternator. Thanks.

I have an 04 and it does the same thing. They never blew out, I guess it is "just one of those things".

Thx for your response. It's comforting to know that it's not just me. I was told that it's just one of those things by the head of the service department and co-owner of the dealership. They told me they've never known anyone to have the lights go out completely. The co-owner's father-in-law was actually pulled over by the police twice because of the issue. No citations were issued.

It's a dirty throttle body. Remove it and clean it front and back,it goes away no more low idling

It`s really from the truck`s air pump(loud whining noise for 7 seconds after start). After starting it cycles an exhaust check(usually 10 seconds). When you are about a mile from home, it will do another one. This is when the lights dim because the added electricity needed is taken away from the lights and is put on the air pump to make this check. You will have less of this occurring if you allow your tb to sit for about 15 seconds after start to enable the air pump to make it`s check. If you skip it it will then happen down the road, hence the dimming of lights issue.

You are good, Bob. That's EXACTLY what it ended up being. I believe my repair bill was $5 for the cleaner and the rest was labor. Too bad no one I know knew how to do this. Thanks for your reply and have a great day! :) Grace glh9@pitt.edu
