Factory drag option with a 326? Never heard of that, sounds like it's just a low option car bought by someone who couldn't pony up for the GTO. Any drag racing efforts Pontiac promoted in '65 with the A body was with the GTO since it had the 389. The 326 was a great motor, but way down on power to the 389.
the best way to find out everything about this car is to contact pontiac historical services( phs-online.com). i doubt if someone put 40000 miles on a drag strip.
I have not run up against any old factory car with heater delete that wasn't a drag car. I have seen radio deletes, but heater deletes have to be special ordered as such since the late 30's as a heater core is standard. Perhaps the 389 has been misidentified as a 326, or has been changed out. Pontiac got out of the Factory Drag Car business in 1963, so would be interesting to know a bit more about this car. Could be a car that was specifically made for a high ranking Pontiac official?
pontiac did experiment with a 303 for racing in the 60s . there's a story about it in september 2012 issue of high performance pontiac. you could have a very rare car , or just a put together. to check the engine size just look on the side of the block .
