Read your owners manual.
You have 2 modes: "Normal" automatic mode- put in in DRIVE and let the tranny do the work. OR there is a "Sport" mode where the CVT "simulates" gear shifts. Its not really shifting gears, because there ARE no gears in a CVT transmission. To enter the "Sport" mode, put the gear selector in DRIVE, then move the stick to the left. That's all there is to it. Notice the gear indicator lamp on the display has changed from a 'D' to a '1'. Move the stick up each time you want to shift. the display will show you what gear your in. In sport mode you don't have to worry about downshifting. The tranny "knows" to start you out in 1st gear when you come to a stop. . . . . Understand that your fuel economy will go down signifacantly in "Sport" mode! Have fun.
When should I change "gears"? Does it matter what gear I am in?
Yes, it does. If you try to go 45 MPH in 1st gear you will be red-lining, meaning the engine RPMs wil exceed 6000 RPMs! . . Watch the Tachometer. Shift up when it indicates 2400 to 2900 RPMs. .
Thank you so much, this has been very helpful
