Car alarm goes off when door opened with key?

Asked by GuruZ1SHV Nov 08, 2017 at 04:10 AM about the 2007 Pontiac G6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My driver side door had to be replaced out of an accident, and ever since then
the car alarm goes off if i open the door with the key instead of the fob. It was
not like this before the door was replaced, so I think I've narrowed it down to the
chip in the door not matching the chip in the key. Is there any way to fix this?

I'm going to bet they just put on a new door and called it a day... Is there any way to fix it if they didn't transfer the stock switches?

There is a limit switch on the drivers door lock solenoid. When the key or fob opens the door, the switch tells the computer that the door was legitimately opened and to disarm the alarm. My guess is that either the door switch assembly is bad or the wiring from the door solenoid to the computer is broken, most likely where it bends when the door is opened. If replacing the switch does not work, you will need to replace the wire harness section from the drivers side door.
