my belt came off as i was 5 minute into driving in freeway then the steering
wheel starting locking up on me i exited freeway and coolant light came on .

No belt means no power steering (no alternator, water pump, or AC either). Get the belt serviced, and check tensioner and idler pulleys.

Next time, immediately pull over and shut the car off. Then you can assess what you need to do and how far you need to drive or tow the vehicle to replace the belt. Running the engine even for a mile or two can be destructive since so many vital things are run from the belt. I always carry spare belt if we are going any distance from my home (and some tools to use to put the new belt in place). In the old days we could rely on our female company to be wearing pantyhose. They could be cut to size and tied off tightly around the pulleys in an emergency. Doubt if they would work with today's engines and who wears them anymore anyway!
