Cooling fan runs on cold start up

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 Pontiac Torrent 140,000 miles.
radiator fan run as soon as cold motor is started.
A hot engine code comes up when engine is cold. When engine warmed up
the temp gage is pinned on low.
I checked warmed up engine with temperature sensor and checks OK 170 F

What happened? Same problem on mine. Pontiac Torrent 2008, 135,000 miles
