Transmission

Asked by GuruTJSG6 Jul 26, 2018 at 09:28 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: General

I have a 2005 Chevrolet cavelier that will not
hold transmission fluid. Every time I put it in
I see that it's leaked out all over the
transmission. But there is a little hole right
beside where I put in the trans fluid that
looks like a screw should go in. I know that's
where the fluid Is leaking from. Am I
supposed to put a screw in that hole to stop
the leaking? Does anyone know what I'm
talking about? It's a small screw hole ride
beside the trans fluid cap that is threaded.
Please some one help. Do I have a leak or
am I just leaking from that hole cuz it's
suppose to have a screw in it

It sounds like you have the right idea and I would put a screw there to stop the leak. Probably fell out a long time ago. Just try to get an exact match of threads and length so it's a permanent fix. Good Luck.

Thanks man I'm going to do that today.. is this a mechanic I'm talking to? Have you ever heard of that? A car having a hole beside the transmission cap for a screw that would leak out the transmission fluid if it's not in there? I really appreciate you answering me man I really need this fixed and I just don't have the money to take it to a mechanic right now. And I really don't know much at all about cars

I'm not familiar with the Cavalier but anytime a missing screw falls out and oil leaks, it's common sense to replace it. Yes, I'm a mechanic on heavy trucks and equipment, small engines and my own vehicles for 50 years. You will do okay fixing stuff, you seem to have a lot of common sense...that's the best tool. Good Luck

Thanks man you have been really helpful. I'm gonna go to a part store and see if they can give me a screw to match up to it. I have never worked on cars but I'm gonna try to put my own brake pads on next week cuz I barely have the money for the pads i can't pay a mechanic for labor. But like you said I'm gonna use my common sense and YouTube videos and hopefully ill get the pads on right. Thanks a lot buddy
