Check the big wire at the alternator for 12 volts engine off and key off. If you do not have 12 volts + or - at the alternator wire look for a blown fuse or bad fusible link in the battery wire that goes to the alternator. Also have the battery tested, it may need to be charged or replaced.
Yes start with battery. Have it load tested. 12V at rest is not a true sign of a good battery. Put a volt meter on battery and watch voltage as someone cranks engine. If voltage goes below 9.6V you need new battery.
Old alternator probably finished off your battery.
Regarding the radio, did you replace the alternator without disconnecting the negative battery terminal? You at best could have blown a fuse. Anytime you do anything electrical on a car, always disconnect your negative terminal and make sure it cannot touch while you are working.

I did unhook the negative battery wire when I did it and all fuses look good. I think a new battery will do the trick Hopefully.
