Question type: Shopping & Pricing

My daughter lived in
CourdeAlene, I'm in Boise,
so know no one up there.
She badly needs her
catalytic converter replaced
in her '07 Outback. Nothing
exact, but what should that
cost? Im going to be calling
places, too low can be just
as scary. Any info, greatly
appreciated!! Thank you

I think the root cause of the failure of catalytic converter needs to be addressed first unless it was from road damage. If you replace the unit and there are underlying issues from the engine then it will be a waste of $. If I was looking for a replacement I'd consider a salvage yard first. These parts usually outlast the car. Good Luck!

I am sure there is a muffler shop in Coeur d'Alene which is where I would send her. Check reviews for shops if you can.

Thank you all, very much. I will ask about different converters, not sure they will let me bring one in?? The car has been gone through pretty thorough, this is just one of the ladt things on list. I'm sure the head gadket will be next, am told thats normal on these cars at her mileage. I don't know if it should be $600-$1500, that was more what I was wondering. I have never owned Subaru...My cousin just had one in her Monte Carlo for $309 installed, but we all know how different they can be. Thank you all for suggestions, much appreciated!!

I'm sorry, coolant leak, yes! Road debris seems to be part as well.
