2007 Subaru Outback air conditioner intermittently turning off
Asked by Kacemary Jul 11, 2018 at 02:30 PM about the 2007 Subaru Outback
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
A/C turning on and off, and AC light
blinking. It works ok if the outside temp is
around 60, but starts turning on and off
around 65. At 90+ degrees outside temp
the light rarely stays on for longer than a
second. Speed seems to have no effect. I
have already replaced the relay, had the
system checked for leaks, and the
refrigerant replaced. Help!

When you turn on the air conditioner, the on/off button lights up red. When I use the air conditioner it intermittently blows hot air. During operation the light blinks(eventually staying off), but the air still alternates between hot and cold.
Is there anything else it could be? Subaru says the refrigerant should be between 13 and 15 and mine currently has 14.
I am not sure what those numbers are as they are not operating pressures. I would find a good independent shop to look at it. Does the dealer have an opinion?
Sorry I had to look. I don’t know much about this. 14 oz of coolant. I don’t know what the pressure was, just that it was leak tested. How do you check the pressure? How do you jump the pressure switch?

14oz of refrigerant is fine. Just bring to a/c servicer to diagnose electrical malfunction or defective compressor.
