Is it running? How's the paint? Some photos would be very helpful. Hard to say, but I wouldn't offer more than 5k with a pending engine overhaul and fair body.

A motor rebuild is going to put a dent in the value. Good running mid 80s 911 can go for $15-20k, if the only minor work needed is paint. Seeing as a good engine rebuild can cost at least a few grand, and a good restoration quality paint job is at least $10k, the previous answer of about $5k is in the ballpark, maybe a little low. Scope out Los ANgeles area craigslist and dealers (independent) to get an idea. Have seen 1989 Carrera with good mechanicals but need other work go for $10k
