oil leak

my 84 944 appears to be leaking oil @ the oil filter adapter/cooler is this a big task to resolve  
with gaskets and seal replacements  my mechanic claims it about a 5 hour job

Sounds about right. It's not that many bolts, but it gets tricky trying to work around the exhaust manifold. I would say it is possible for the backyard mechanic, but go into it with the mindset that it will be a frustrating 5 hours.

I personally would rather pay someone several hundred dollars than do this job, its not so much fun

not a bad job,just remove oil filter,remove the bolts pull out clean off old gasket replace bolt back up,tourk bolts to 15 inch lbs,replace with new oil and filter.

It's a big job. I did it and it took to me 6 hours. If you want the piece, buy it on ebay because it cost 35$ for all the kit and if you go to Porsche, it cost 100$$. Good luck

Yes I did it on mine. The problem with this job is that you don't have a lot of place to remove the oil cooler and it's not easy to clean the old gasket on the motor.
