Door lock

Asked by GuruV6DGW Sep 11, 2018 at 09:22 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Astro

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Chevy Astro Van, 2004. All of a sudden, the doors locks quit working.  They
make a clicking sound and you can see them try to move, but they will not
activate enough to lock or unlock.  I had a short in the wiring about the same
time they started not working, which caused several codes to show when the
check engine light came on.  The short is fixed, which was a hot wire that
went to sensors, etc.  It ocurred to me later that this could also be the
problem with the door locks, and that is why I am asking.  The doors locks
started acting like I described all at once.  Thanks for any ideas.

If the battery is charged and good the actuators in the door are bad

That would be unusual but not impossible, remove a door panel in order to get to an actuator, unplug the actuator put battery voltage into one terminal then touch the other terminal to ground, if it works check for a bad ground by doing a voltage drop test on both wires if it doesn't work replace actuators
