Car shuts off while driving n starts back up after

I have 2004 Chevy Cavalier that shut off
while driving on the freeway I was going 70
with cruise control on when the car shut off
...just died the lights and battery and
Windows we're working still all the lights on
the dash were on. I pulled over to the side of
the freeway put the car in park and turned
the key off then turned the key to start it and
it started right back up and i continued to
drive down the freeway why did this happen
what does that mean

I would take it in and have the engine looked over, one cause could be a fuel filter or fuel pump. At least change out the fuel filter and have the fuel pump pressure checked.

I have one same year it's the ignition switch not the key switch it's on left side of steering wheel lower part easy fix 40.00 dollars

GuruZHZS6 I know it’s been three years since you posted this comment, but can you please elaborate because my mom’s 2003 Cavalier has the same problem and three mechanics can’t find anything wrong with the car & if you see this please email me at jccareaga@yahoo.com
