Automatic transmission won't go in reverse

Asked by yo_mom Feb 28, 2014 at 05:57 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Question type: General

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala.  All of my automatic gears work except "reverse".  I did fill with transmission fluid - still no reverse.  Any suggestions?

Common causes of this problem are a blown sealing lip on the reverse servo, worn reverse booster valve/sleeve or a partially blown channel plate gasket. - See more at: http://etereman.com/blog/uncategorized/a-history-lesson-on-the-gm- 4t65e-transmission-and-discussion-of-some-common-problems-and- their-cures/#sthash.8c3pNAh6.dpuf

The rear sprag could be a problem too, as it has to hold the low/reverse pack, but only in reverse. It freewheels in forward gears.
