Dealership selling badly damaged vehicles

Question type: General
We purchased a truck from Mountain Top Motors in Winfield MO in May 2016. Within 35 days of our purchase we paid $1060 for repairs. This has continued up today. We have replaced the power steering, left and right wheel hub and idler arm, a new transmission, and now the engine has blown which we will have to pay a min of $4000 to replace on a vehicle we paid $11,000 for. We have contacted the company numerous times, they refuse to do anything about this bc it happened outside of their 30 day warranty. The atty general has recommended that we contact a civil rights atty and sue for damages. They have not replied to our complaint with the BBB. This dealership should not be on this website. Look into the complaints with the BBB, they are doing this to several people and they should be stopped!!

Was this a "USED CAR" dealership???? Used car dealerships are the absolute worst possible places to purchase "used cars", with a few exceptions.... IF you have specific knowledge about the reputation of a particular place, or have been referred by friends who knows or have done business with a private business specializing in restoration.... Otherwise, stay away from used car dealerships .... It's an industry that has had a very shady reputation for a long time.....
Next time purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle from a "new car dealership"". New car dealers have a vested interest in protecting their highly valued customer profile in the community. They have likely been in business for 15 or 20 years, in some cases 50 years! And, on certified pre-owned cars you can get extended warranty for mechanical break down lasting three years....
Wow, $11,000 for a 13 year old vehicle. Did you have this vehicle inspected by a disinterested 3rd party mechanic? My guess would be no. How many miles were on it when you purchased it? What does civil rights have to do with you buying a vehicle that is past it's 30 day warranty and it is starting to fall apart.
My question is not getting answered... how does a company that has complaints about scamming customers allowed to stay on this website? I understand we got screwed and "lesson learned." I don't want it to happen to anyone else. Typo....It's not civil rights its consumer rights -
The consumer has rights, but yours expired in this case at the 30 day mark. Perhaps tell it to CarGurus using a link at the bottom of the page. From the information you gave in your initial post, I see no wrong done. Anytime you buy a high mile older used vehicle you are asking for trouble if you don't do your homework.
jeannec68- I'm sorry for your loss. I didn't realize from your original post above that the dealership that you purchased the car from was "vetted" by "Car Gurus",. Is this what you are saying, because that was NOT CLEAR to me from your original post...? I'm not sure that Car Gurus actually endorses any dealership? Am I mistaken and missing something here? My advice above still stands....If you or anyone else stays away from "USED CAR dealerships", your going to be in much better shape and your concerns will be minimized.. I purchased my 2010 Subaru Outback in 2014. I've had this car now for almost three years and I have not had one repair. So, good deals are out there, just not at " used car dealers". So, that's my advice for you and others. I hope you find this useful information and constructive. If so, please mark my answer, best answer. Thanks.
In reply to Bob - the point of getting on here wasn't to get a condescending reply. As I stated I know we made a mistake but that doesn't make it right that a dealership can do this to ANYONE! I'm 100% sure if you were the one dishing out $7000 out of your pocket you would have a different opinion! No need to reply again - I don't need someone who can't give constructive advice to comment on MY situation!!!
jeannec68-. Thank you for calling out people who are not helpful, they need to be reminded that this is not a "charitable way" of dealing with people. ALL of us have had bad things happen to us and it's not kind to rub this into people's faces. I know that they will not appreciate it until something like this happens to them. A long shot, but, I was wondering if you might consider taking this dealership to small claims court, even Judge Judy? You know that 10 million people watch her show and even if you were not successful, you would be casting a huge spotlight on this dealership. Yes, you were 5 days over the 30 day warranty, but, the spirit of the entire thing is really outrageous. Another thing is you could do is go to Yelp and write a review of this particular dealership...You have every right to do that, it's free speech. Finally, and I don't think that " Car Gurus" has any responsibility here, but, you could email them and get an answer. None of this will get your $7,000 back, but, it's a good way to help you process some of this nonsense in a more constructive manner. Best wishes going forward. -- Mark
