possible instrument cluster failure... take it to a chevy dealer and they can diagnose it with the tech2.. my 2004 chevy venture gauges went nuts and had to have the stepper motors replaced, I went through gaugepegged.com cost was about 130 dollars the garage wanted 450...

I have a 2000 chevy malibu with 170,000 miles with mostly original part. I originally thought it was the alternated, I had it tested by 3 different auto parts stores and it passed each time. all 3 places said check your battery and connections, it turns out the negative post was slightly corroded so i wire brushed it and reconnect. It started normally and the problems fixed. little things can make a big problem
