Security Light Solid, Won’t start

Asked by GuruZNDL2 Nov 09, 2017 at 03:06 PM about the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Chrysler Sebring with over
107000 miles on it.  I was driving a short
trip (about a mile) when my security light
came on and stayed solid.  After getting
home, I tried to start the car after shutting
it off but it wouldn’t crank.  The battery
isn’t dead because all instruments light up,
horn, lights, radio all work.  However, now
both the security light and the check
engine light are both on and solid.
Checked online and I think it could be a
key or security alarm issue with a blown
fuse but not sure what fuse it is.  Perhaps
battery isn’t charged enough? Tire
pressure light is flashing but I think it’s
unrelated. Rarely use car (college student)
but I do need it for long trips soon.  Any/all
help is appreciated!

The security systems on moderns cars request information from the key via a ring at the ignition cylinder. Likely the power to this ring has been broken via the fuse found under the hood. If it continues to blow, the ring might be failing and needing replaced. Similar issue noted in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCZqeyC5jDQ

If the issue was the key or ring you wouldn't have been able to drive it home. Your immobilizer was probably triggered do to your alarm system being activated or a fault in the system to reset it disconnect both negative and positive battery terminals the touch the cables together (note make sure terminals are disconnected from battery or explosion can occur) this will drain the capacitors and reset your immobilizer.
