Question type: General

I need to know if I should put the car in "D" or "4" for in town (35 -55) driving for the best gas mileage?

I would put it in D. Let the transmission figure out which is best for the speed you are driving. Putting it in 4 may cause it to rev higher than it needs, getting worse fuel economy.

Hi, the people my dad knows that work in the car business told us to put it in 4 when you are in town going less than 55 or 60 mph and drive when on the highway or doing higher than the previously stated speed limit. I noticed when I started puttin it it 4 instead of drive when I was in town I got way better gas mileage. Hope this helps!

If you're doing alot of city driving, then leaving the transmission in a lower gear will ease the amount of work your transmission has to do. Driving in the city with it in D will make the transmission have to do alot of "gear searching" if you suddenly needed to step on the accelerator. Just don't forget if you get on the highway afterwards, put it back in D!
