Start up issue

08 Toyota Avalon past couple weeks while I start
up car I'd hear for a second metal scrapping sound.
(Probably not best terminology) now I am having a
hard time starting up car. Can hear air like sound
while trying to start up followed by a very loud
woodpecker like knocking sound for few seconds
then it finally starts after about 5 attempts
