2003 Z71 Tahoe Speedometer works part of the time, most of the time it stays around the 120 mark.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
A year ago I had the transmission worked on by a Chevy Dealer. Very soon afterwards (a couple days, if that) the speedometer began malfunctioning. It started off by sticking at a speed, now it will move and stick there then work it's way back to zero, but most of the time it likes to live out near the 120 mph area. Could they have not connected something properly at the dealer when they worked on the tranny?

there is a recall for the gauge cluster, my 04 did this, they replaced the cluster for free.
I had the same problem in my 2003 Chevrolet impala I found a website where I had my speedometer fixed for $95, They rebuild the entire cluster for $150. here is the address in case you wanna check it out: http://www.speedometergaugerepair.com
There is a special policy regarding that covers 03-04 pick up trucks(tahoes, escalades etc included) for unlimited mileage 2005's are covered for 110000km. And theres nothing the dealer could have done to make this happen everythings digital in there now all the dealer has access to really is programming the cluster
Thanks for the info. My 2005 tahoe just started doing this and it has about 51k miles on it.
GM has a recall on them if they're under 70,000 miles. The stepper motor is going bad, so you can find a service on ebay that rebuilds them, or buy a new cluster and get it programmed.
