2008 cobalt not starting after recall replaced

Asked by jmlee Feb 27, 2015 at 05:56 PM about the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our 2008 Cobalt has the ignition switch and cylinder recall and the dealer replaced the
part. The invoice shows the part number for the ignition lock cylinder only, not the
switch. Shouldn't there be a part number for the switch also? The car is still not
starting. They put in a new anti theft module and this was not the problem. The car is
at the dealer now and they have no idea what it is. No codes are coming up. Could this
be some issue to do with the recall?

Don't pay them a dime. This happened after the recall fixes, they can and should make it right with you. Its all related what they replaced and the problems you're having. Don't let them bully or b/s you into paying for their problem/mistake.

The ignition switch was not part of the recall. The ignition lock cylinder is all that gets replaced. Having said that, it seems odd that the car is now having other problems, but whatever it is it is not recall related. The're not just going to let it sit there, and they're not going to give it back to you when it won't start. Sit tight and let them fix it.

I’m having the exact same issue my 2007 Chevy cobalt 5 speed has been at the dealership for 3 1/2 months now and they still don’t know what’s wrong with it they did the recalls on ignition and ignition cylinder and then told me the anti theft was acting up that I needed a new modual they replaced the modual and still nothing for the last 2 months and are trying to charge me for everything they’ve done even though they screwed the car doing the recalls everything comes on but when I try to start anti theft light comes on and everything shuts off but the anti theft light any suggestions cuz it seems like they’re sitting with there thumbs up there ass

If the recall work has never been done on the car you should definitely take it to the dealer and let them do it. Parts and labor will be free of charge. Why would you even consider doing it yourself if GM is willing to do it for free?
