my 2008 suburban 4x4 5.3 is not shifting through 2nd and 3rd gear..it does go through if I release and give it time otherwise its reves up to 4000 rpm...why is that?

transmission problem I think...shifting through 2nd and 3rd gear...my engine reves up to 4000 to 5000 rpm when going through 2nd and 3rd gear...why is that?

when it revs up does it eventually drop in gear

Not positive on that trans but I don't think it shifts on a vacuum I believe it is electronic shift so it may be a sensor has gone bad call a autoparts store like AutoZone and ask them if they're scanner may be able to read a code for the trans shift code a lot of the major auto parts store will scan your car for free

I was watching a video on YouTube about shift solenoids. Look this up for your year and model. They are somewhat exposed once the transmission pan is off. I was advised a flush is not the best, but obviously, you will have to replace fluids and pan gasket once removed. This may be the most cost effective repair before a rebuild. I have never done this before, but reviewed the video. please view and decide with discretion. I hope this takes provides a solution for you and your vehicle. Rick
