steering tight

Asked by shereef May 13, 2007 at 07:52 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

May 2003 Trailblazer's steering is abnormally tight.  I showed it to Mechanics and they can't discover any problem but I still suffer.  Any helps or tips?

Its a tough thing to diagnose unless you actually feel it when driving the car. Here are things I would look for. Low tire pressure, binding in steering linkage, tight steering gear adjustment(!), and a failure in the power steering system. If it gets really bad you could take it to a Chevy dealer and have them hook it up to a computer to let them know what the problem is.

I replaced the power steering pump. Sterring is good on the highway or when rpms are above around 1700. In town , turning corners and in parking lots it's very stiff ???
