From Page 148 of the 2008 Saab 9-5 Owners Manual: "Gasoline Octane Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane of 93 or higher for best performance. You may also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but your vehicle's acceleration may be slightly reduced."

Thanks to both Henri and Nathaniel! I've driven Saabs for a very long time and have a mechanic I trust. I'm overdue to buy a newer model, and am not wanting to be stuck with one where you can only use the higher octane. I do mostly city driving, so i don't foresee that reduced acceleration would be a problem. I'm so happy I found this site, and thanks again!

As you have a turbocharger in that Saab, my Saab mechanic in highly recommends I use premium fuel. Keeps things running smooth and clean. One of the main factors for a long lasting turbocharged car. Full synthetic oil is also a must. otherwise these cars will last a while
