Hyundai Accent 2008 lurches then stalls 10 seconds later - fix or run away?
I recently bought a 2008 Hyundai Accent (130k miles - I know, but I'm a broke grad
student, and it was all I could afford to purchase outright) in January. Manual
transmission, has worked great until three days ago. I was driving to work, and the car
lurched, not heavily, just enough to notice, and the engine light flashed on then went
away. THe car drove fine the remainder of the way to work (all highway, going
~65mph). I had an appointment at the mechanics to get a tune up later in the week, so I
planned on bringing up the issue then. Well today (two days later) I was driving to work,
and a similar lurch happened, no engine light, then about 10 seconds later the engine
stopped, all dash lights glowing. I managed to pull over to the shoulder, and turned the
car off. I tried turning it back on about 2 minutes later, and it did turn on, with just the
engine light glowing steadily. It's being towed to the mechanic to run diagnostics on it.
So my question is (having no idea what could be the cause of the issue): Should I run
while I can? I would hate putting hundreds of dollars, possibly thousands, into a car that
will require more maintenance in just a few months. I was thinking about selling it and
getting what I could out of it, then purchasing a newer, more reliable car... any
thoughts?
