How many 1968 GTO's came with open rear ends?
I'm restoring a 1968 numbers matching GTO convertible, 4 speed, 400, plain jane car. It has an open rear end; how many GTO's came that way?
This car is so bare bones stock it even has PMD wheel covers, which I think is pretty rare?

Check the taq, if it's still there, that car is supposed to have the Safe-T-Track limited slip rear. Of course, people could order anything they wanted. I don't know of anyone who kept track of this particular option, but if anyone has the data it would be Pontiac Historic Services. You should definitely be in touch with them to verify the equipment of your car before you spend a ton of $$ on someone's clone Tempest. ******************************************************* If car had No A/C and Safey Track rear 3:55 stock option If had Factory A/C and Safety Track rear gear was 3:23 op ***************************************************** Ram Air for 68 the above gears were standard as listed and not an option for Ram Air I or II. Included Dealer release cars Not special ordered. Next Special Order only... off Dealer Order sheet. 3.90 RA I or II without A/C ... If RA II With A/C 3.90 option All 4:33 rears were OPTION only NONE with A/C could be bought over the counter. Also some mile high cars were found with 2.93 and 3.08 Limited slip... less than 1% had 3.36 gears. Chart reads: 1968 Limited Slip YB =2.56.... YC= 2.78... YD= 2.93..... YE= 3.08.... YF = 3.23 (std option release with A/C)..... ZG= 3.36 (rare).... ZH = 3.55 (Std option release Without A/C)..... ZK= 3.90.... ZL = 4.33 ( HO HD performance VERY rare)
