Should the numbers above the engine code(ys) on the block match the vin number of the car?

the last digits of the vin are usually stamped onto the block around the timing cover on pontiac v82s

yes, the last 6 digits of the vin should match the numbers on the engine, they are where the ys code is . the ys code is correct for 70 400ci.w/automatic tranny.

Rucko is wrong , They are not where the egine code is that is the engine unit number . Above it.The matching vin # s are lower and vertically stamped in the block .
