temp gauge is not working on my 2001 monte carlo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
i'm interested in a 2001 Monte Carlo that has 128,000 miles car looks nice, my concern is that the temp gauge is inop, the person that owns the car said it was a 14.00 part but wasn't sure what the part was i suspect it is temp sender he is talking about, but i wonder if there could be something more seriously wrong internally in the engine such as possible head gaskets?

it happend once in my car..it just was an unplugged wire. I think that if it an internal error the gauge must raise a little bit on contact.
It happened to my 2001 Monte Carlo and it was just a bad thermostat.
disconnect battery for 15 minutes then reconnect, turn the key to run (without starting) for 5 seconds then off then on for 5 seconds before starting i believe this resets the pcm and has worked for me for various malfunctions
