2001 Chevy won't move unless you turn it off and back on

Asked by Eric Dec 13, 2018 at 11:15 AM about the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 was
running fine. I was going about 55 and all
of a sudden the RPM started to climb
and their speed was reducing. I pulled
over put it in park. I then tried to drive it
again and it wouldn't move in drive, first,
second or reverse.
I turned the vehicle off for about 5
minutes and then started it back up.
Suddenly it worked again and I drove
about a mile and a half and it stopped
driving. Again I turned it off and then
back on and it drove another mile
wouldn't let me go over 40.

What could cause these symptoms?
