Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '72 Cutlass supreme has a grey primer finish. I know this question isn't directly for the
cutlass but if you guys can help me out with it that would be great. Or whats an alternative
? maybe just dusting it? i know that its very porous so it needs to be dries thoroughly.
And i do plan to get it painted soon.

Primer is not designed to be exposed to the elements like water and road grime. You need to keep your car as clean and dry as possible and get it painted soon. In the mean time do what you're doing now, take it to the car wash, wash it gently and then dry it. If it sits out in the rain lots, as in for months, then you may have to sand the primer off and reprime it before you can paint it. Next time around, first prime your car with an epoxy primer to seal the bare metal and keep the moisture away from it. You can then primer it with a sanding type primer like you have on it now. That will last almost indefinitely.
