1979 Olds Cutlass Supteme

Asked by Debbie Feb 09, 2016 at 03:41 PM about the 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Question type: General

I have a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I'm
having trouble finding out what size engine my car
has. Trying to change my valve cover gaskets. The
hole pattern is two holes on top and three holes on
the bottom of the valve covers. I thought it had a
305 5.0L but the valve cover gasket for that size
engine doesn't match the hole pattern. I looked up
the 260 engine and the hole patterns are the same
as the 350 engine. The transmission is a Metrics
200 all original engine and trans.
Can someone help me figure out my engine size?

Engines have a stamp on the side of the block to identify them. You can look up that number (if you can find it) to tell you what engine you have. I have found them on the lower sides by the exhaust manifolds near the front. The easiest is the belt label under the hood, that usually has the motor liter size if it is still there.
