Engine shaking

Asked by Erick Aug 06, 2016 at 07:27 PM about the 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My water pump broke and once I replaced the water pump
my engine started shaking. I put in new spark plugs,
distributer cap, rotor, v-belt, lower and higher water tube,
and air filter. It doesn't shake as much but it still shakes
enough to worry. Does anyone know what could be the
problem

It's highly unlikely a rebuilt water pump would make it out of the rebuilder's shop with that sort of a problem. Double check your spark plug wires. I'm guessing one or more of them are on the wrong terminals. Also make sure the new distributor cap and rotor are properly seated and secured in place. A worn timing chain that's skipped a tooth could do that too.
