I hope you see this response. I take exception to Jim's comments above, at least from my experience. I have driven the R-body 1979-81 New Yorkers as daily drivers since 1982 and they have been great vehicles. I never had emissions problems, engine, tranny, or front end issues. The cars never need much beyond routine maintenance and when they did, parts were cheap. I just bought my 4th New Yorker a 1979 (I've had two 1979's and two 1981's) with 36K miles and it is a beauty! Good luck with yours! Email any questions you have to rest44@hotmail.com By the way, you have a 1981 New Yorker, that had the lowest production of the three years, with just over 2500 made. These cars are great cruisers. Have fun! Bob

I'll fully agree with rest44, and would like to congratulate you on your purchase. I bought a 1979 in 2002 with under 40k miles, and beyond a windsheld wiper motor, the car never had anything go wrong. The a/c is still on it's original charge (R-12)! My cousin has the car now and will never part with it. Let me just say that I think it's a crime the media panned the R Body Chrysler products. The cars were never really given a fair chance. True there were some fit and finish issues with earlier ones, but the mechanics and suspension, etc. were all proven components from Chrysler's parts stable. In short, take good care of it and it should take good care of you. Personally I'd love to have a clean '81!

Hi guys. I have a 1979 Newyorker as a project here in Finland. Very hard to find any parts except mechanical parts. Is there any car at any wrecking yard today in the cars homeland for to buy some body parts? Please answer ameriikanteijo@gmail.com

I recommend you try Ebay for parts and good luck to you in the land of reindeer!

I had a 1981 new yorker for a while in the early 90's and at the time i had a 4 door 1977 d'elegance and it had more room and better comfortable than the caddy, it ran great and handled beautifully, I had several oldsmobile early 1980 model 88's n 98's and the 81 new yorker I loved as much as the oldsmobile, my new yorker was black with grey interior and came with a sweet power amp from the factory radio system , it ran awesome until the fule pump went out on me at highway speed as soon as the oil light came on I pulled over checked the oil i knew it was full hopefully n fresh , then checked ti try n start it but the motor was locked up, easy fix drop in a 318 which it came with, but I also needed exhaust work which would have cost 700 at the time, so I sold it in the paper for 250 bucks I'm stilll kicking myself for getting rid of that car it just was that great room in front n also the back seat a teen age couple would love for sure, never seen another one for sale close by since then , so id say it was a rare great car that was just perfect n nice fuel economy for the size, i owned a cordoba black i liked too but , it couldnt hold a candle to the 81 new yorkers, and I have stuck with almost always gm by mopar had my affection too! congrats on the great buy !
