Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have had car in shop 3 times for a
heat sensor replacement.  Sensor not
reading correctly   + 300 degrees
when plugged in - 40 when
unplugged. The ECM  not delivering
enough fuel due to sensor reading
too high temp
They suggest further diag needed to
pinpoint fault.  Does anyone have
any suggestions, it's getting
expensive.

Is that with a new sensor? If so I would check another one. Sometimes new parts are bad right out of the box. I would also check for bare wires in the wire harness..

Are you buying your sensors on line or buying quality sensors from your local auto parts store? I have had major issues with less expensive on line parts. Also a short in the wiring harness could also cause issues. They can easily test the sensor to see if its bad. They can also check the wiring harness from the ECM to the sensor to check possible wire short issues. Also some sensors like this might have a 30 - 90 warranty for defects. Just a thought.
