sticky accelerator

Asked by Hankvf Dec 23, 2008 at 10:02 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Astro

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why is the accelerator sticking on my 200 Chevy Astro?  I've had it serviced 3 times for this problem and it is not corrected.

Pull the air cleaner and everything off back to the intake going into the top of the engine. I use AmsOil Foam Cleaner. I start the van and spray it directly into the engine intake. Work the throttle a few times and spray it again. The engine will stumble a little but that cleans out the intake that gets gunked up with fuel. Make sure you do not spray any of the sensors in the air intake system. If you take the air filter housing out and the rubber/plastic air hoses off back to the metal snorkle on the top of the carb you will be fine. Good luck, Bob

I have the same issue after I cleaned the throttle body of a chevy astro 99 put it back on and when I turned the key without pumping the gas the car accelerates. I think the acceleration cable stretched but I don't know how to fix it.
