probably the cigarette lighter...have seen plug into the cigarette lighter, toasters, coffee pots, irons....those truckers need their 12 volts~ this is probably the melty thing....think about it? what would be drawing Melt current?...one thing comes to mind...take a look at your fuseblock...use a little tester so you don't have to pull each and every fuse to look at it, there are little "tester" openings on the back of each fuse~ take a look at the relay block...perhaps your headlight relay is going bad (if equipped)~

You know your chassis will "come alive" if you took the big 1/0 black battery cable....find the end that attaches to ground, and coarse wirebrush the spot where the lug attaches...brush the lug...re-attach....this will insure 300 cold cranking amps can get through and still serve the dashboard, illumination, Fuel Pump....IGNITION~~! is an important one and will actually "weld" itself and CREATE the corrosion.....kinda shoots itself in the foot....and hey, I needed that foot~

ok thanks for the info... one more question...this wire is in the bundle behind the batt. inside this RED box..
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
RED=positive....we are only concerned with the black wire's connection to the frame here~....tho you could chase the connections with a small wirebrush, just don't catch fire...maybe pull of the cables to do this, but the NEGATIVE (ground to the brain) is Important...okie dokie~?

not really certain about the "red box" sounds like a cover for the main Positive Electrical...you could open the box to see some electrical connections to probably the alternator, the ignition, the fuel pump and anyone else who needs to be powered not necessarily with the help of the ECU~

Tried lookin up a wiring diagram for your car. It will not help. I need to know exactly what the burnt wire is. Where does it run from and what does it run to. May be a pick.
