Firing

Asked by K33yon Feb 18, 2018 at 04:08 PM about the 1987 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1987Oldsmobile 98 cranks fine, but
while I'm driving it stalls and go dead.
It's getting plenty of gas but it's not
firing. Sometimes it'll fire and crank up,
and sometimes it won't. I'll wait like 20
minutes and it'll fire right up. I've
changed the coils, ignition module,
wires, and spark plugs, but it's still
doing the same thing.

mid 80s GM v8s had an issue w/dist.connector. A recall fixed prob. but some slipped by poss. Try to jump the connector and see if it will fire. It is a wired connector outside the housing. Hope this will help.

see if there is a single wire outside distributor. it should have a quick connector coupler, if so, try to use a wire to jump across the connector and see if it fires. hope this helps.
