Will I get better mileage on my 08 ford edge by having in in overdrive or just regular drive

The torque range of the engine is mated to the use of overdrive. That six speed trans will do all the work for you! Now, if you're pulling a trailer or running into a hard headwind, its best to lock out overdrive to keep the trans from "hunting" which does accelerate wear and tear. Good Luck!

Yes, you want to leave your vehicle in overdrive for better gas mileage. The only real necessity to turn off overdrive is when pulling a trailer. In pickup trucks the "overdrive" switch is labeled as "tow/haul mode." Also, if you're driving through extremely mountainous roads you may want to manually select gears for less wear on your transmission and brakes.
