my 1999 balibu has the rpm at 500 (RPM)  I want to know the right setting.     ( IS THE V-6 3100????)

idle speed is controlled by the computer working with the idle air control. My 1999 malibu idles at about 700 rpm's at normal operating temperature.

im guessing it shouldn't bet that high. Have you checked for air leaks into the air filter or the piping some way before the MAF sensor? could be your problem
