Cvt transmission issues.

Asked by Dawn Apr 26, 2018 at 04:24 PM about the 2008 Nissan Sentra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I barely bought this 08 2.0 sentra for $2800 97,000
miles. I found out while registering it that it has a
salvage title, I had already gave three money to the
guy. I'm a female who is too trusting, anyways
shortly after the transmission started acting weird.
It would slip and take a few seconds to take off
and reverse now hardly has any power. It totally
stopped on the freeway in the middle of the night
when I was first experiencing the issues. The
engine was still running but no power. Rpms
wouldn't even respond... I sat for an hour then it ran
again. Intermittent sluggish behavior happens
constantly. It is my only transportation for work
and to run kids back and forth to their dad's. So I
still drive it. I spoke with Nissan and they said need
a new transmission or get rid of it. I am just hoping
that some one can give me more insight on this
type of problem with these transmissions that
everyone I talk to says they are too difficult to work
on or trouble shoot. I really can't afford to go buy
another car or spend on a new transmission. I
saved up for quite awhile just to get this car. So
very discouraging but I'm rolling with the punches.
Just need some intelligent advice on my options...
Can you please help me?

Try Nissan to see if they will replace the CVT under extended warranty. https://owners.nissanusa.com/nowners/navigation/warrantyContent

Well it is void because of the salvage title. I've been researching all over that web site. Thank you by the way. What should I try next?

This is a tough problem. If I were in your shoes I might look for a used transmission with warranty. Once it was installed and working I would sell the car.

Dang bad news all the way around this. Sucks I'll never get out What I just bought it for. I would love to get my hands around the guys neck that took me on this... I've only had the car a month.
