Both tail lights out simultaneously?
Asked by Minh May 23, 2016 at 04:38 PM about the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Headlights work. Interior lights work. When I use
my remote door unlock, tail bulbs flash. However,
with car running and lights switched on there are
no lights whatsoever coming from back of vehicle.
Have already switched the specific tail light fuse.
What next??

Hello, my 2004 Mazda 3 just did the same thing.
Mine started tonight anyone know the answer?
If your tail lights and dash lights are out the fuse is blown.
On the left side floor board to the left of the brake is a wire bundle that doesnt have very good insulation around it. There is an orange wire that was severed and you guessed it, that wire connects directly to the tail light. Over time my foot had rubbed against those wires and eventually it broke. I simply soldered and insulated with electrical tape. Also wrapped the bundle up to protect from future wear.
Have you tried hitting around the glove box area to see if they come back on. Same on my brothers car with tail lights going out as well as some of the lights surrounding the radio area but we can mostly get them to come back on my knocking around
Just did this repair on a 2010 model, I can't speak to any others. Under the hood is a fuse block with a 15A fuse marked "TAIL," this fuse powers both the tail lights and the stereo console illumination. If both are out, that is likely where to start. Won't address any underlying problems that may have cause the fuse to blow in the first place. On the 2010 model the fuse is easy to locate as it is immediately above the only 7.5A fuse on the block. The block is under a black plastic cover to the right and below the battery cover when you are facing the engine from the front bumper. The fuse map is on the underside of the black cover. Best of luck, all.
I'm trying to fix it, I've changed fuses, lights but nothing works. It lights up when I hit the brakes but it doesn't when I turn the lights on or close the car (it should flash twice).
Did anybody find a fix to this?
I’m experiencing the same problem, would appreciate a solution

Ive been having many electrical issues with my 2004 mazda 3 hatchback to be specific, my tail lights dont turn on unless i brake and when i use the button to lock the doors, they lock and unlock right away and my signals and wipers stopped working but got fixed after cleaning all the fuses on my fuse box behind the glove box, but doors and tail lights still not working, i feel that the problem is either the fuse box or some wiring issue, i cant think of any other reason for all this to be happening.

I'm currently having this problem on my 2004 Mazda 3. Headlights turn on & brake lights work fine but my running lights won't always turn on/dashboard won't dim. I've replaced all minor fuses in both boxes even though they weren't burnt (Under the hood & on the PJB). Now I was tempted to buy a new headlight switch on the steering column but after doing some research the problem has to be in the PJB. Going to try cleaning it out if not I'd rather purchase another PJB on ebay or junkyard as its the same price as the headlight switch.
