That's an easy one , If you look at the battery you should see a black and red wire. They call the black wire negative -- and it is also known by many names ie; Ground,Common,minus
Most cars and other equipment use the Black wire (sometimes it's just a bare copper wire) as a ground. To make something work on a car you need a Positive + and a Negative - (or ground)
