I have a 1998 venture with a 3400 sfi engine and i was wanting to know the best way to take the engine out and install the new one. is this possible to do without haveing to drop the subframe, tranny and all?

Droping the subframe really is about the only way to do it on a van, coming out the top is possible on some of the gm vehicles but is very tight.
Yes, I am doing it now. Need to take out the heads and lower manifold, alternator, starter, A/C compressor detached and hung on the side, bracket bolts, engine mount, etc... I have pictures that I will soon place on http://chevyventurefix.com soon.
i just pulla 3.4 out of a 98 venture from the top you have to remove alt, upper intake, rear o2 sensor, coil pack and the two long bolts,a/c compressor, oil filter and it will come right out the top just take it slow dont get in a hurry
Here's my engine coming off the top.
I just swapped out a chevy venture engine, but with the same model.
