Question type: General

How do I interpret the VIN?

1 Answer

16,865

Character 1= Country in which car was made (USA= 1 or 4, Canada=2, Mexico= 3, ect...) Character 2= Make (This should be G) Character 3= Make division... (this should be 1 for chevy) Character 4= Should be a,b, or c and stands for the type of safety restraint Character 5= I believe this stands for the chassis type Character 6 & 7= I beleive this stands for body Character 8= Engine Character 9= (A seemingly random number that is used to verify the VIN during registration) Character 10= Model Year 97 I think is V Character 11= Assembly Plant The rest is just the production number... Look up 17 digit VIN on google or something for more exact information on how to decode it...
